This
year saw the first Schools Eco Conference, organised through Ridgeway
School and held at the National Self Build and Renovation Center in
West Swindon. Our Eco Council represented the school and had taken a wonderful poster describing all the things we do in school to help recycle, conserve and enhance our environment. We had a brief but informative presentation about the centre and how they help people find ways to improve their homes with eco products such as solar panels and water and fuel conservation devices. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We were then allowed to explore the centre and the houses and devices it contains, this was very interesting. After our tour we were given a challenge to create eco devices/models from some recycled refuse we brought with us as well as some extra bits from the Swindon Scrap Store. Sticky tape and ideas were flying everywhere, it was great! To help us understand how other species rely on us looking after our world and our climate, we were lucky enough to meet Andy and his Animal Adventures. He introduced us to some small (and much larger) snakes and reptiles and we were able to learn a little about what they need from us to safeguard their environments. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally
we had the chance to all get together and discuss with other schools
the kind of things they do in their schools to help the environment and
conservation. This was very useful as it allowed us to share all
our good ideas and come back to school hopefully with new ideas.Thank you, we all had a fascinating day! |
